Youth Art Club
This summer, ages 9-18 are invited to join local artists and hobbyists and explore the 7 core elements of art.
Over the 10 week course, students will explore the basic foundational concepts of art - line, shape, form, space, value, color, and texture - all captured in their own visual arts sketchbook.
Students will have the opportunity to create and explore these concepts in a variety of art mediums such as ink, graphite, watercolor, soft and oil pastel, acrylic paint and more.
Classes will be held every Tuesday morning, beginning June 23, and ending on September 1, 2026
Location: CAC Community Classroom
218 S Main St., Condon, OR 97823
(aka the pottery studio)
Class Information
Students will be broken into sessions by age group:
Ages 9-12: class from 9:00AM-10:30AM
Ages 13-18: class from 11:00AM - 12:30PM.
Space is limited to 12 students per class.
Each student will receive their own spiral bound, mixed media art journal to use and keep, as well as instructional worksheets or project ideas.
Art supplies will be provided on site at the community classroom only.
We hope this course provides a greater understanding of the concepts that make art work, as well as an opportunity to try a wide range of mediums and see which might fit the growing artist best!
Pictured here: Condon Arts Council’s Community Classroom recently used for an acrylic barn quilting class. The Classroom is a multi-use space on the south side of the old Sweeney Mortuary on Main St, next to the SWCD parking lot. Most often, this space is used by the ongoing ceramics program, but is used for a variety of applied arts classes at CAC.
Meet the Artist
Jessica Bates will serve as the primary facilitator of this course, joined by other local artists and enthusiasts as available.
Jessica is a facilitator, graphic designer, and freelance consultant who began exploring the visual arts 8 years ago as an outlet for her struggle with depression and to combat perfectionism. She’s always been a musician (vocals, piano, clarinet), but now spends her free time creating in ceramics, watercolor, calligraphy, and more recently, oil and soft pastels. She channels the power of her ADHD into exploring techniques, trying new mediums, and deep diving Pinterest.
